Imagine growing so fast that your clothes become too small every month. This is a bit like what our friends the phidippus experience when they molt. They must say goodbye to their exoskeleton, which has become too tight, to put on a brand new and larger one. It's all the rage among jumping spiders! 
Before shedding, our little acrobats go into “do not disturb” mode: less active, they even abandon their favorite menu to concentrate on the task ahead. Then, they create a cozy little cocoon, a sort of luxury hammock, to enjoy this moment in complete tranquility. Imagine: they stand there, relaxing while their new costume solidifies. Ah, the good life!
The frequency of this metamorphosis depends on their appetite and growth. The more they eat, the more they grow, the more they have to change their “look”! And remember, each molt is a special moment – a bit like moving to a new class at school. They go through different stages, from L1 for toddlers to L7 ♂ or L9 ♀, for adults. Every step is an adventure!
So, if you find your phidippus a little lazy and not interested in hunting, don't panic! She is just preparing for her fashion show for her new outfit. It's a vital and, let's face it, quite fascinating process for these charming little creatures. Long live the moult! 🕷️✨
